Signature Guidelines for Medical Review Purposes
CMS has issued Change Request (CR) 6698 to clarify for providers how Medicare claims review contractors review claims and medical documentation submitted by providers. The previous language in the Medicare Program Integrity Manual (PIM) required a “legible identifier” in the form of a handwritten or electronic signature for every service provided or ordered. CR 6698 updates these requirements and adds language for E-prescribing. For more information click

OIG Guidance on Waiver of Additional Copayments Arising From Retroactive Ambulance IncreasesThe OIG has recently issued two new pieces of guidance on the waiver of copayments. The OIG's general policy statement addresses the waiver of copayments by providers and suppliers affected by the retroactive ambulance rate increases. Advisory Opinion 10-10 deals with the waiver of copayments by neighboring, municipal EMS agencies for the residents of each other's jurisdictions.
